Ah, after a long "break" from blogging, I am back at it again. Probably I could not find any form of "inspiration" over the last few months, so didn really know what to post. Now that all the guys are already in NS, its getting harder to meet up, but of course this space can always be used as an avenue for interaction.

Any of you watched "The Dark Knight" already? I hardly recommend it because it is worth the 2/1/2 hrs in there. But if you want to get away with max satisfaction, I suggest you dun switch off half way, or else u may not get the plot. A little saddening to know that one of the best actors, Heath Ledger, has died of drug overdoes. Aged only 28... hope he gets a post-humous oscar award for his terrific play.

If you haven't seen the trailer, then a little stuff...

The crime lords in gotham city are being nabbed one by one by Batty, the police, and a district councellor. They eventually seek the help of the Joker to fight against the trio. Can the joker outwit them with the plans he had in mind? Go watch :P
And I suggest looking at the plot of the first movie to understand this one better too...

And for spoilers, just a question... for those who have watched it, you can highlight. The rest dun lol...

The two ferries, one which was ferrying criminals and the other, civilians scene. Do you think if they had pressed the detonator, will they blow up their own ship instead? Or both the ships irregardless? Because knowing the joker's character, he never tells the "truth", like for the place where Batman's girlfriend is etc... Just a thought.

Haha! CTX! You have finally responded! Ah, a call for an outing! Idea. But but but but... we must not forget this blog still includes Dian Yang and a few others who were not from Cat high (no offence meant...), but nevertheless, name your free dates man! Never too late to call an outing right?

To prove that we still keep in contact, mr YYH, why you always never join us for bball? :P Haha.

Well, heard that most of you will be getting A Level results sometime soon (rumoured to be next Fri). DY and I know how it feels, so we wish you all the best. Nothing to feel nervous abt, you all will do well I am sure. :)

And for the guys, no problem wearing no. 4 or no.3 (army uniform) into the hall la! This is not sec sch, and some of you wouldn't get a chance to change. Still remember the hordes of them wearing their uniform into the hall with the duffle bag.

Hey guys. 'Tis been a while, huh.

It's pretty sad that this blog is like dying off, and with it the contacts that we used to keep. Some things haven't changed, but mostly everyone here has probably changed in one way or another. No more school tends to do that to you I guess.

To cut a really long story short, it's been great knowing every single writer of this blog, and I'm suddenly missing everyone here so acutely it hurts. There are so many memories left behind and although I wasn't a party of all of them, it's still nice to reminisce.

I really hope that one day we all will meet up, maybe go play chess or something (Hey we ARE Cat High Chess!), but that day doesn't seem to want to come and odds are that day won't be getting here anytime soon, if at all.

I'll remember you guys always, and memories are what's important out of all the things that we leave behind...

Okay never mind. Pre-book-in-syndrome I guess. Hahas. Take care people!

Anyway, HAPPY NEW YEAR ppl! Got your new year resolutions ready? Tomorrow is the start of school term (although it applies to us no more...) and I dread it loads! Imagine all the "menaces" of the society crowding in the buses and making a mess! Haha. Now in NS, I get to appreciate school hol in a different perspective lol...

Hi ppl,

Guess by the time I type this, about half of you are in NS already? Oh well, all the best then! Just bear with it for a while, and you will enjoy it.

Caught up with YYH and KMK recently. Seems that they are enjoying themselves (particularly YYH) cause he is not in NS yet. Your turn will come soon! Haha. Hope that you all still contribute to this community.

After so long in the chess fraternity, I have realised that you will never lose contact in such a small and bonded one. As I participart in the competitions, I am still remembered by many competitors, and I remember many of their faces. And to our budding girls, its not surprising to join an external chess club after your studies. I have seen quite a number of female participants in competitions. Those faces you will find familar too...cause they are your peers!

Hi,

I know barely anyone will be visiting or contributing to this blog cause of the impending "disaster"? Nah, dun think of it this way. Pls be yourself when you go into the exam hall. Dun freak out and then waste all your hardwork. After all, you look back, the O levels, you had the same feeling too, so no diff lah. You all scored well. Top 10% of cohort, so do it again :)

A few tips I learnt and with some of my friends also...

1. Have plenty of rest before the exams.
Do not mug too much on the day before, it doesn't help cramming info last minute.

2. Condition yourself for the papers.
Believe your timetable is out, so especially during the heavy test week whereby you have 3 papers a day, plenty of rest, and relax......

3. Music Therapy.
It helps. Bring along your I-Pod, mp3 player/hp and listen to music which will soothe your soul or fire you up for the paper. Research has shown that it helps you to concentrate better/increase your alertness. Depending on which paper of course...

4. Dun think about the past.
Dun let one paper demoralise you. Its not wise to discuss too much about a paper when it has already been submitted, then dwell on your mistakes. Will only lead to more errors in future papers.

5. Self-belief.
Examiners are human too. Doesn't mean you dun know how to do the question means you give up. Look for common patterns. If all else fails, scribble something on it. It may help, and the examiner may very well be convinced :)

Yep, with that, I can only send via sms and wish here in the blog...all the best. You can do it, so long you believe in yourself.

Malaysia declassifies documents on bridge to rebut Mahathir

WHEN the Malaysian government recently cancelled its projected 'scenic' or 'crooked' bridge on the grounds (or at least pretext) that its southern neighbour was being overly greedy in their demands for a quid pro quo of sand and airspace for military flying manouevres, it suddenly struck me what a very long time it has been since I'd heard or read anything positive about Singapore.
Since its dollar reached parity with Australia's years ago, my own compatriots seem to have largely lost their former enthusiasm for shopping trips there, and seldom seem to pay it much attention any more. And the people of Malaysia, persisting in their sibling rivalry with the island that was originally part of their new post-colonial nation - hence the addition of 'si' into its old name, Malaya - seem to bad-mouth the city-state at every opportunity.
"Boring, lah, nothing to do and too many rules" seems to be the common consensus among Malaysians I talk to. And they never tire of the well-worn witticism, "Singapore's a fine place: sooner or later you'll be fined for something."
Which indeed you will, and savagely, for a wide variety of infractions including littering, a habit that many Malaysians appear to consider their God-given right if not outright duty, and jaywalking, which back in my days in Hong Kong seemed to be the then colony's most popular outdoor sport. Nor is it very long since chewing gum was prohibited in Singapore, ostensibly, as I was told, because children would use the stuff to block the electric-eye apertures in the doors of MRT trains.
And it wasn't many years before the gum ban that foreign males arriving in Singapore wearing their hair longer than collar-length were denied entry unless they submitted to the shearing of their locks to an acceptable length by barbers standing by at immigration for the purpose.
But if Singapore feels like 'Singabore' for those of us who are averse to what we see as too many rules and regulations and overly-ferocious fines for breaking them, it's more like 'Swingapore' for people caught hanging around there with trafficable quantities of drugs.
Of course, nearby Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand have the death penalty for drug-dealing too, but so rampant is corruption among at least some of the laughably-entitled 'law-enforcement' agencies in these countries, that I suspect the cash-rich can cheat the executioner or even get off scott-free if, as frequently occurs, the evidence goes missing, presumably sold at considerable profit by the officials who confiscated it in the first place.
Tiny population
Which brings us to the first of the strongly positive sentiments I personally feel about Singapore - it may be Singabore, but at least it's Singapure. Squeaky-clean not just litterwise compared with most trash-strewn Asian countries, but letter-of-the-law-wise too. In fact Transparency International rates it as one of the least corrupt nations in the world. Several places in front of Australia, for example, where we like to think we make an honest effort to keep things straight, and streets ahead of most other locations in Asia.
This situation, or at least the inspiration for it, is very much to the credit of Lee Kuan Yew, who stands out as a moral and ethical saint compared with many of his contemporaries who've headed emerging Asian nations, like Marcos of the Philippines, Suharto of Indonesia and others, who've enriched themselves, their relatives and cronies beyond the dreams of avarice at the expense of their impoverished populace.
What a pity, I've always thought, that Lee has had such a comparatively tiny population on which to bestow the benefits of his fierce fiscal honesty. When he came to power, war-shattered Singapore was pathetically Singapoor. With no natural resources, no industries to speak of, not much commerce and little surviving infrastructure. Not even enough water, which - even though when it rains in Singapore it Singapours - has to this day to be purchased and piped in vast quantities from Malaysia.
Under Lee Kuan Yew's lion-hearted leadership, Singapore's made so much Singaprogress in the past half-century that today it's one of the most Singaprosperous nations in the whole region, and even ranks respectably worldwide in economic terms. Its achievements also include one of the world's busiest and most efficient container shipping ports; an amazingly user-friendly airport; and one of the best airlines on the planet.
But on the other side of the coin, unfortunately, its progress in the areas of economic success, law and order and cleanliness have been at the expense of human rights and freedoms. In other words, Singaporeans are permitted and even exhorted to work themselves to exhaustion, shop till they drop, and even, if they have any time and energy to spare from these core civic duties, to relax and enjoy themselves in a variety of acceptable pursuits.
But let them step out of line politically, by poking fun at ruling-party politicians, criticising the government in public or in print, staging unauthorised protest meetings or marches, standing for Parliament on behalf of opposition parties or voting for opposition candidates in sufficient numbers to gain them seats in their electorates, and they're in trouble.
In dire straits
Dissenters adjudged truly dangerous are jailed without trial for indefinite periods under the draconian Internal Security Act, retained in Singapore, as also in Malaysia, since back in the 1950s when it was deemed necessary to counter the curse of communism.
Opposition candidates who stand for Parliament, in which the ruling party has never won less than 90% of the seats, are routinely sued for defamatory remarks they're alleged to have made in the heat of electioneering. Like the redoubtable Mr JB Jeyaretnam, for years the sole opposition in Singapore's Parliament, and still fighting at the age of 80 or so, these unfortunates are often made an example of by the courts and either impoverished or utterly bankrupted by being required to pay massive damages.
And electorates whose voters have the temerity to deliver victory to opposition candidates are officially and openly threatened and punished with deprivation of their fair share of government expenditure on infrastructure and services.
Small wonder then that supporters of human rights and democracy see the political machine that's run Singapore all these years, the People's Action Party or PAP, as performing admirably in the peace, prosperity and pick-up-after-yourself departments, but as otherwise serving the people with pap.
The same pap to which the strictly-controlled media treat their viewers and readers, to the point that I can't help thinking collectively of the principal Singapore 'newspaper, the Straits Times, and its government-owned Malaysian equivalent, the New Straits Times, as, with apologies to Mark Knopfler and his great 1990s group of the same name, the Dire Straits.
In fact so dire is the state of democracy in Singapore, and so Singaboring in its effects on the body politic, that the city-state seems to have lots and lots of brains but precious little heart or soul. So little soul, come to think of it, that I've heard only one single, solitary genuinely original Singaporean joke, and many years ago at that: 'Just like Christianity, this place is run by a trinity - the Father, the Son and the Holy Goh'.
Of course, Goh Chok Tong, 'the Holy Goh' who followed the Father as Prime Minister, has taken a back seat now in favour of the Son, Lee Hsien Loong, who recently led the PAP to victory by clinching 82 of the 84 or 96% of the seats in the Singapore Parliament with a somewhat underwhelming 66.6% of the popular vote.
What a pity
In my opinion, and in the opinion of many of the foreign newspapers and magazines that the Singapore regime suppresses by drastically restricting their circulations as punishment for publishing critical news or views, there's no longer any justification for this rigged and rigid political situation. In fact it's positively counter-productive.
Just as Singapore is a bastion of prosperity, efficiency, order and probity amid the chaos, incompetence and corruption that bedevil much of the rest of South-East Asia, it could also be a beacon of human rights and liberty.
A living rebuke to the uniformed bandits who run Burma, for example; to the politicians and patricians who keep the Philippines perpetually mired in poverty; and to Umno and its coalition partners who continue to keep Malaysians so unnecessarily under the thumb. But no.
Even Indonesia, still as agonised as it is in so many ways as a result of 30 years of Suharto's New Order - or, as some of us think of it, New Odour or New Ordure - is now, for all its prevailing problems, more vibrantly and genuinely democratic than Singapore, which seems content to represent no more to its troubled neighbour than a ready market for landfill and cheap labour, and a convenient mall for ridding Jakarta's mega-rich of their often ill-gotten rupiah.
What a pity that, realising its urgent need to reinvent itself as Bling-Blingapore, Singabore restricts itself to such projects as sanitising Bugis Street and old Chinatown, sprucing-up Sentosa, staging events like Mega Sales and an Arts Festival featuring largely imported talent, and now splashing out on a spanking new casino complex.
If only it could also see that the latent spirit of its people may be as vital to its continued prosperity and progress as their intelligence and industry have been. If only it could cease regimenting them to the point where they're seen - and even, I suspect, see themselves - as politically impotent, Singaboorish robots, programmed and controlled to within an inch of their lives, they may well become Singaborn-again into creative, free-wheeling, even fun-loving people. And the whole world might start seeing Singabore as something a lot more like Zingapore.

A carrot, an egg, and a cup of coffee.

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying a word. In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.

Turning to her daughter, she asked, "Tell me what you see."
"Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied.

Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg. Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma.

The daughter then asked, "What does it mean, mother?"

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

"Which are you?" she asked her daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean. Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart? Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean? May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy. The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

Rush of Blood to the Mind? Relax...

Woa... What a deludge of posts in the past week! The number was below the number of posts in my class blog, but now it is above! Haha. Looks like the less I blog, the more post will come out. So next time I shall blog less often :P

Anyway, yah guess all of you are stressed up, thats why you all keep posting jokes here to help each other relax. This is a good sign. I keep a few spam mail in my office so that whenever I feel stressed, just take a break by reading it then it will perk me up again. Its a proven remedy. So I feel very guilty not contributing, but I think I will now lol...

Ok here are some which I remembered from office:

It is mandatory that UPS pilots have to submit a report called a "gripe sheet" to the maintenance engineers after every test flight. This is for feedback on any faults and allow the engineers to rectify it. The latter will then submit the reply to the pilot for the follow up.
Never it be said that ground crew lack a touch of humour. Here are some true examples when the pilot (marked with a "P") submits a report, and the Engineer gives the solution (marked with a "S"):

P: Left most tyre almost needs replacement.
S: Almost replaced left most tyre.

P: Evidence of leak at rear wing.
S: Evidence removed.

P: Dead bugs on wind-shield.

A small smile appeared on the woman's face as she fought to keep from crying. The man went on, 'When I finally started work at a small company, I was given an important project to complete. I blew it because of a small mistake, and ended up losing my job after less than a year, but still you have been there beside me..'

His wife was in tears.

'After being jobless for a long time, I finally managed to land myself another job, but I never seem to be promoted or recognized in any way. Still, you have been by my side, all these years.'

She flung herself onto him, sobbing with tears of deep emotion. The man continued in a thick voice, 'Now, I meet with a road accident and when I wake, the first thing I see is you sitting beside me. There is something I'd like to say to you..'

His wife looked into his eyes, waiting for the words to come out of her husband's mouth, her mouth clamped tight to prevent from crying out loud. Finally, the man cleared his throat and said,

'I think you bring me bad luck lah.'

At a prestigious university, two top students were going into the final exam.

Confident they would do well, the two decided to party the weekend before their monday paper. However, they ended staying longer than planned, and didn't make it back in time. They found their professsor and explained that they were out of town for the weekend and had planned to return on time. They had a flt tyre on the way back and couldn't get help, so they were late. The professsor thought it over and agreed that they could make up the exam.

The next day, the professor placed them in separate rooms and handed each of them a test booklet. The first problem was simple and worth 5 points. However, the next question stumped the two. It simple asked: "Which tyre?" (95 points)

Anyway, no offence meant, but I do not quite agree with what Yida has concluded. Yes, we all need attention, there are bound to be many instances whereby the majority wins and the minority has to concede defeat. But it depends on what basis the minority concedes defeat that makes the difference. Did she/he succumb to peer pressure? Did she/he dun want to lose face? Or was it for the good of all that the person just let the thing past? If its the final answer, then I think he is a winner after all. How many ppl can think selflessly like this and help solve the situation by considering other ppl's feelings too?

"You may have lost the battle but you won the war". Ppl may see you as having lost ground on something now. But they will see it all in good cause in time to come. So long your conscience is clear. So why care? If they dun appreciate it, then just bo chap them in the end loh. After all, its absence which makes the heart fonder.

Ok la...i talking crap now.

Anyway, my main aim is to say:
Ppl, cheer up! Now is not the time to brood over your short comings or failures. Its time to concentrate and look forward to the future. If you concede now, you will lose everything. So up your ante now!!!

The Bystander effect
The bystander effect is watching some evil take place, but since we are watching with others who are watching, and no one seems to be doing anything about the evil, we go on watching and doing nothing about it. Instead of consulting our own feelings about what we do, we take our cue from the other bystanders. They are not doing anything. Therefore, we also do nothing. If something needed to be done, somebody would have done it.
Passivity is a thousand times more practical than stepping forward to take action. One attracts attention from enemy if one moves: if one freezes, the enemies in your line of sight continue killing whatever or whomever they have begun to kill and do not suddenly swing their attention to you. A lesson of the most ancient part of our brain is to stay still and nothing will get you.

Moral Drift
Moral drift is a particular and fascinating thing. A plain fear of being disliked if we stand apart from group flow.
Let us say that eight people are discussing slavery. One person is strongly against it. Four are strongly in favour. Three suppose it is ok, or maybe not: they are backyardists; they have no feel for the subject because it hasn't come up in their own lives, and they have poor imaginations, being self-centered. That's the ambience of the room. The one antislavery person makes a strong objection to slavery. People defend slavery. Others shrug. The antislavery person speaks again. The others keep giving one another more and more eye contact and less and less eye contact to this irritating speaker. Nothing makes a strong opinionated speaker yield so well as being denied eye contact. After 10 minutes or an hour or a week or two weeks, the sometime strong dissenter says, "Well, I suppose there are some instances where slavery might be all right, of course."

Attention-Deficient Syndrome (ADS)
Attention is a scarce resource. The total amount per capita is strictly limited. Ultimately then, what attention one person gets, someone else is denied. Attention goes both ways, eash time someone focuses directly or indirectly on anybody else, that can be thought of as a transaction in this economy - a transaction that usually doesn't involve money.
Attention addresses a fundamental human desire. Let's suppose you woke up one morning, well supplied with food and other material essentials, but invisible and inaudible, unable to get noticed in any way at all. At first, it could be quite amusing to spy and eavesdrop, to see what you're not suppose to. But no matter what you discovered, not being able to share your encounters with anyone would soon become torture. Living without feedback, even in the lap of luxury, would be a pain.
This explains why many of us are working harder and harder to get some. So as to be noticed by the largest possible audience - or by an audience of peers whose attention we value most, ADS people normally resort to doing stupid actions, speaking loudly, announcing your feelings, loudhailing your complains, commenting on every little thing you can etc etc etc, the list is endless. Keeping attention transactions equitable in the future will be no easier than keeping cash transaction equitable today. A spendthrift will allow a few people to monopolise her attention. Or to lavish it on someone who can't give it back - say, Elvis. Similiarly, a person will do everything so to monopolise the market for attention.

Conclusion? These three things are present and true. The fact that i am typing away at the computer to post this blog entry shows that i am demanding for your attention as well. All these 3 things are what made the society and the people around us so disgusting. But who will want to point out all these problems? No one. 'Instead of consulting our own feelings about what we do, we take our cue from the other bystanders. They are not doing anything. Therefore, we also do nothing. If something needed to be done, somebody would have done it.' And, the ones that will stand out from the crowd will be given 'less and less eye contact'. And what makes everything more disgusting is the presence of backyardist. Staying neutral all the time will do them no harm, so why not? After one particular party emerge as winners of the arguement, they will then agree and go ahead with the crowd. Or if one person successfully monopolise attention, the backyardist will also give in to this monopoly, instead of standing against the monopoly and get shun. Anyone ever wonder where does the small firms goes if there is really such a monopoly existing? Monopoly is against the principle of allocative efficiency and is a market failure. But does anyone want to correct it? No. Why? Why not. Bystander, moral drift, backyardist.

Summary? Life sucks.

Haha, so looks like majority of the guys have already gone for the medical check up.

Btw, those ppl doing all the stations are not Officers or lao jiaos (old birds), bar the one at the xray, eye test and MO. Those "officers" are actually ppl like me. NSFs. So why be scared of them lol.

Ok, now I think what I say will only be useful to Mun Kiat cause the rest of you already taken the test. The last station (computer one) actually plays an integral part in determining which unit you will be posted to in the future. So if you didn put in your all to do the test, good luck to you...lol...
I can only drop mk hints that there is one test specifically to see if you can be short-listed to be a pilot. But its ok la. Many ppl do badly in the test anyway lol.

Anyway, isn't the lady at the eye station quite "outstanding"? Haha, must have seen too many guys around, so she being one of the only females there, really draw ppl to her.

Haha the NS checkup is GOD BOTHERSOME. Super super super bothersome lah. Especially that stupid COMPUTER TEST. Like omfg. Test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test.

And then more tests.

I went in at 1 PM and just breezed through the first few stations. The stupid blood draw from arm, the uncle went slapping away at my right arm for 30s then attempted to draw blood, but he said "Aiyo this arm cannot pump blood one lah" then slapped and poked another hole in my left arm. Argh! As if one arm wasn't enough. =_= Idiots!

After half an hour I was all the way to the "Go in room and COUGH" test and was thinking I could get home by 3 pm. The doc kept me waiting...

I went in at 230 pm. =_= Then the damn test took another hour or so so I reached home at 6pm.

Medical check up!

Hmm, maybe you all like a review on the medical check up i went! haha, can read while you buffer those videos in the previous post =)

Anyway, my dad was the one who fetched me there. Hmm, you know once you reach there, there are army uniforms all around. Esp. old TAN ladies. yuppz. That place is hell of a security, army officers with rifles at the door and yea, the surrender of handphones -_-
One stupid thing about the check up is that there is freaking no instructions for newbies like us to follow, so basically i look like a lost soul wander at the entrance while the rest walk past me? hmm, finally i manage to asked my way (obviously there have been quite a number of cases of lost souls since the army officer don look the least bit surprise). Yea, the first station was photo taking! you are suppose to wear this uniform and comb your hair up? hmm, my slot was really empty, the whole room only got me.
Yea then we proceed to the different stations. My first station was sound testing. oh boy, i didn't noe the sound is so SOFT! i was stoning like a idiot infront of the officer while the guy was pressing hard at the com wondering why i don have a response. Finally he waved to me (F.Y.I it is ME that is suppose to wave to the officer if i hear something) and said that the sound is going to be very soft.
Hmm, my next was the eye test, usual eh? hmm it was the x-ray station that really freak me out. I SWEAR the guy inside is gay. okie, we are suppose to take off our shirt? so we are standing half naked while the guy call us into the room one by one. Lets juz say the rest of the officers are stern, have a low voice and don really smile. The guy oin the x-ray room is the total opposite! "good morning!" (with a big smile) " come in!" oh my, it will give you goosebumps! "press ur chest against the machine, yes, closer." then he will come over and adjust ur arms. " take a deep breath. really deep and hold ur breath" it is kinda trap huh? i never knew i gotta hold my breath and i stood at that awkward postion with my lungs bursting while the machine goes on.
Next on is the infamous blood test. Ah the urine test i lame to the max. The guy juz casually tell us to take a stick and go toilet pee on all colours. he then didn't even bother to look at our stick before telling us to throw it away. aha. the first one was okie. the second blood draw was hell, at least for me. The uncle went smacking away at my arm till the whole arm went red. trust me it hurt. Yea and the guy beside me was staring intently and asked the officer attending to him " does it hurt?" "oh no... juz a ant bite". The guy then stared at me again as if saying, "ant bite?!"
hmm, then it was dental. was expecting a lousy report for me since my teeth aren't in good condition. god like they care. they will juz check what decays you have and juz grade you a pest A.
Hmm the last station is the one that every guy will remember lol. shall not elaborate muzh. trust me this station you gotta experience it for urself. =)
Oh ya, there is still one amplitude test. Bring a freaking calculator. crap so many maths involved, make me flung.
yuppz, that was happen... and yea, fun in a certain way.

Haha, I feel that although what CTX said in the previous post will come true, but I still habour the hope that it will not.

Ello.. I just realized that now that we've all retired already, we won't be seeing each other for quite some time huh. Hm. Kinda sad really.

Now that all the competitions and what-not are over, this thing will probably fall into disuse and get kind of dead. Another sad thing. This is the only group blog I'm in that's survived for so long (And I'm in five of them), and it's kinda sad to see it die.

Hais right. Haha.

Anyway. Discovered this test that's been circulating round the net lately and it's seriously quite accurate. The weird thing about it is that it doesn't seem to have any good things to say about the person, but what the hey. Raffles Cup 2007

Hm. What do I say? Can say that I have mixed feelings about this Raffles Cup bah.

Firstly, I'm happy that AJC got first. Not meaning to show off or anything, just saying that at least it was us and not HCI ya. Really really have to thank NJC for pulling down HCI A. Thanks so so much!! KMK you really owe them a treat man. If not me then at least them. Haha.

But then, seeing that this is our last year at Raffles, it seems.. disappointing, that we didn't win anything this time round. For Yi Da, for Yong Hua, for me. This was our last year and naturally we'd want to go out with a bang, but I guess life never does go the way we want it to.

Lastly, I want to say I'm sorry to the NJC people. If I had won my match against HCI A (which was entirely possible given my situation) Sean would have been pushed to not draw with Zixian and after analysis Sean would have won in about 8 or so moves. Then we would have drawn with HCI A and NJC would have been third. Really sorry..

But I can say that my team already outdid itself by managing to put up strong fights against all the strong teams we faced. We drew with NJ, RJ, and nearly pulled off draws against AJ and HC. I'm very proud of my team. I don't have regrets, just disappointment. I'm sure Yi Da and Yong Hua feel similarly.

No regrets, just disappointment...

Rcup 2007

Haha I think this time I dun need to fight la. I will be the first to type this as I see no one on msn. Unless all appear offline la :S

Anyway, congrats to AJC A for retaining the championship trophy. I must really say it nearly slipped out off NJC's or AJC's grasp this time and into HCI's. But I must thank NJC for helping hault HCI in their march to the conveted trophy. As such, AJC (and this small little community) can still hold their heads high and say that we have done it.

This time is by no means a one man (or team) show. It was a collaborative effort. AJC A stumbled but got back on track. NJC managed to hault HCI. AJC B nearly cost an upset! So kudos to all 3 captains of the teams. You all have done well. Someone in this community owes some of us a treat... :P

For blitz, you all were somewhat unlucky? But nvm la, this is the last rcup. Next up, we can always play in the open category!!! :S

Congrats to pei rong for winning another trophy for the second yr runnning. Yida has sure taught you well.

Now its time to concentrate on studies. Dun be like me...haha. Get good grades and get into the course you want!

Yes it is the time of the year again, where the ppl in this blog should come out of hibernation and start training for this competition. Yeah man, show the rest what we are made up of!

I paid kmk and tian xiang a visit this wed. Saw some new faces. Haha. KMK and CTX, study comes first, but do train occassionally. You know char yang is not as "prestigious" as this cup. AJC has won it so many times in the past 8 years. 5 in fact. Haha. 1999, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2006. Make it the sixth time man! Ok la, I am being biased...

But seriously, I feel that give the favourites HCI a run for their money la. I am sure any team is capable of beating them. They dun have strategy in their formation. So pls do try and hit them hard. Yoohoo, Yida and Yong Hua, I am talking to you! Let it be a 1.2 finish this time! And for blitz, let it be a 1.2.3.4.5 finish, better than what kmk and I did in 2006. :)

And also to the two girls, do your best! Do your school proud! And then if you intend of going into NTU, you are already half way there! Haha.

But of course, studies comes first, so plan your time wisely! Hope I can take leave to come down to support all of you in RJC.

Hello...anyone home? You Hoo!!!!!!!

Hiaz...guess everyone must be busy preparing yourselves for the upcoming tests yah? Oh well, good luck to all of you. But just a little experience to share.

Its best to decide now on roughly which courses you intend to pursue in university. Then you can work towards it. Dun be like some of my friends...mug and mug...get good results, but dun know what to choose. End up just anyhow choose. A' Level results are just a passport to university. My "passport" may not be a strong one, need loads of clearance before I can get into the country (course) that I want to. But still, I managed. So do plan.

And, if you set your sights on going NUS, be prepared. They MUST see RESULTS FIRST. They dun care how good your other things are. If your results do not make the cut (or rather, their cut), you dun stand a chance. NTU offers more leeway and room for one to enter the course of their choice.

Yep, just an experience I wish to share. DY anything to contribute?

I wanted to blog about the Challenge but I guess Yick Loong beat me to it this time. Haha.

Well it was certainly a very screwed up competition and it was obvious the way they organized it wasn't exactly wonderful. Flipping coins for the right of who went first is hardly fair in my opinion. Even so I'm sure everyone tried his best (or her best for the few girls who went for the competition) and since we all did our best we shouldn't leave behind any regrets yeah?

To peeps from NJC, don't be too disappointed ya. Surely there will be disappointment but don't overdo it lahs. There's more than one competition out there, and they won't be as screwed up as this one I'm sure. Although I don't think I'll get top 8 like I never did for Char Yong I'm sure everyone else can. Jiayou!

NTU Lightning Chess Competition

Hi,

Ok so I got wind of the process of the competition from CTX and KMK.

Well, it didn really turn out the way I expected it to be. Thought it will be an epic battle between NJ and AJ. But Yida and Yong Hua, dun be disappointed la. The NTU lightning is quite a screwed competition cause it doesn't test your real strength. Neither speed or slow, so quite hard to manage your time. And the way they screw up the pairings too I heard...quite dumb of them. How can they let AJC team 1 and 2 , and VJC teams 1 and 2 be in the same group? Higher chance of "crowding out effect".

Anyway, yep, so let Char Yang be the next target! Hope to see all of the ppl eligible here to have a position in the top 8 in their respective categories! Jia You!

Sorry DY, you and I are no longer eligible for Char Yong Cup, but we go there also kanna own, so not much diff...haha.
