Hey TX! Aiya, you cant play on Sunday? Nvm, next sunday (and subsequent ones), do try to make yourself free! Actually I dun know if I can make it this Sunday or not. But next Sunday definitely cannot.

Worse still, our competitiors are all the ppl from PES A and B one. Lol...top prize $1000!!! BUT HOW TO WIN? They have the brawns. So we have to use brains loh...lol. Someone teach me UPTHRUST and principle of floatation again? :P
Dun know la...see how long the activity last. Hopefully we can get some $$$, then end early, might join you all for bball. Dun cross me out just yet!!!
Then I still need to go for the AHM (Army Half Marathon)!!! Siao liao...PES E also kanna. TX and YYH, still want to be PES E or not? Lol. Another Sunday gone. Why hold it on a Sunday this time? Haha.
So much for Sundays...

I watched the videos again and I'm still amazed at the way Connie sings. Omg lahhhs. Haha. But I don't wanna go into detail again because I'm too lazy to type it all out all over. LoL. She should have won. Bleah!
Yick Loong, we can't go for pilot training because we don't have perfect eyesight. LoL. Very few people with non-perfect eyesight can go for that training, and I mean very very few people. =S
Mun Kiat, remember and do what Yi Da said, BRING A DAMN CALCULATOR. You'll be damn happy for it trust me. LoL.

CMPB
Haha, so looks like majority of the guys have already gone for the medical check up.
Btw, those ppl doing all the stations are not Officers or lao jiaos (old birds), bar the one at the xray, eye test and MO. Those "officers" are actually ppl like me. NSFs. So why be scared of them lol.
Ok, now I think what I say will only be useful to Mun Kiat cause the rest of you already taken the test. The last station (computer one) actually plays an integral part in determining which unit you will be posted to in the future. So if you didn put in your all to do the test, good luck to you...lol...
I can only drop mk hints that there is one test specifically to see if you can be short-listed to be a pilot. But its ok la. Many ppl do badly in the test anyway lol.
Anyway, isn't the lady at the eye station quite "outstanding"? Haha, must have seen too many guys around, so she being one of the only females there, really draw ppl to her.
Congrats to you all that mid years are over! Enjoy this weekend and monday (youth day right...) lol... Seeya soon!

Hahah
Haha the NS checkup is GOD BOTHERSOME. Super super super bothersome lah. Especially that stupid COMPUTER TEST. Like omfg. Test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test after test.
And then more tests.
Kns.
I went in at 1 PM and just breezed through the first few stations. The stupid blood draw from arm, the uncle went slapping away at my right arm for 30s then attempted to draw blood, but he said "Aiyo this arm cannot pump blood one lah" then slapped and poked another hole in my left arm. Argh! As if one arm wasn't enough. =_= Idiots!
After half an hour I was all the way to the "Go in room and COUGH" test and was thinking I could get home by 3 pm. The doc kept me waiting...
And waiting...
And waiting...
And waiting...
And waiting...
And waiting...
I went in at 230 pm. =_= Then the damn test took another hour or so so I reached home at 6pm.
ARGH.
Anyway I watched the videos le, the fat guy can SING, and the little girl is amazing. Grow up alr confirm be singer. LoL.
MID-YRS ARE OVER AT LAST!

Medical check up!
Hmm, maybe you all like a review on the medical check up i went! haha, can read while you buffer those videos in the previous post =)
Anyway, my dad was the one who fetched me there. Hmm, you know once you reach there, there are army uniforms all around. Esp. old TAN ladies. yuppz. That place is hell of a security, army officers with rifles at the door and yea, the surrender of handphones -_-
One stupid thing about the check up is that there is freaking no instructions for newbies like us to follow, so basically i look like a lost soul wander at the entrance while the rest walk past me? hmm, finally i manage to asked my way (obviously there have been quite a number of cases of lost souls since the army officer don look the least bit surprise). Yea, the first station was photo taking! you are suppose to wear this uniform and comb your hair up? hmm, my slot was really empty, the whole room only got me.
Yea then we proceed to the different stations. My first station was sound testing. oh boy, i didn't noe the sound is so SOFT! i was stoning like a idiot infront of the officer while the guy was pressing hard at the com wondering why i don have a response. Finally he waved to me (F.Y.I it is ME that is suppose to wave to the officer if i hear something) and said that the sound is going to be very soft.
Hmm, my next was the eye test, usual eh? hmm it was the x-ray station that really freak me out. I SWEAR the guy inside is gay. okie, we are suppose to take off our shirt? so we are standing half naked while the guy call us into the room one by one. Lets juz say the rest of the officers are stern, have a low voice and don really smile. The guy oin the x-ray room is the total opposite! "good morning!" (with a big smile) " come in!" oh my, it will give you goosebumps! "press ur chest against the machine, yes, closer." then he will come over and adjust ur arms. " take a deep breath. really deep and hold ur breath" it is kinda trap huh? i never knew i gotta hold my breath and i stood at that awkward postion with my lungs bursting while the machine goes on.
Next on is the infamous blood test. Ah the urine test i lame to the max. The guy juz casually tell us to take a stick and go toilet pee on all colours. he then didn't even bother to look at our stick before telling us to throw it away. aha. the first one was okie. the second blood draw was hell, at least for me. The uncle went smacking away at my arm till the whole arm went red. trust me it hurt. Yea and the guy beside me was staring intently and asked the officer attending to him " does it hurt?" "oh no... juz a ant bite". The guy then stared at me again as if saying, "ant bite?!"
hmm, then it was dental. was expecting a lousy report for me since my teeth aren't in good condition. god like they care. they will juz check what decays you have and juz grade you a pest A.
Hmm the last station is the one that every guy will remember lol. shall not elaborate muzh. trust me this station you gotta experience it for urself. =)
Oh ya, there is still one amplitude test. Bring a freaking calculator. crap so many maths involved, make me flung.
yuppz, that was happen... and yea, fun in a certain way.

Say Goodbye to "Goodbyes"
Haha, I feel that although what CTX said in the previous post will come true, but I still habour the hope that it will not.
This blog is by no means just a blog for chess related stuff. Any problems or thoughts, just post here. Be it advertisements, thoughts that you want to share with us or something you want it to be "secret", this blog is always open.
I am proud that even though we have not met up together for some time (as in everyone), this blog is still up and running. Do hope that it will continue. Well, we can always change it into a study blog for the time being.
Remember, this is not just a chess blog, it is a community of friends who share common interests and will help each other!
All the best in the coming exams ppl! :)

Heyyy.
Ello.. I just realized that now that we've all retired already, we won't be seeing each other for quite some time huh. Hm. Kinda sad really.
Now that all the competitions and what-not are over, this thing will probably fall into disuse and get kind of dead. Another sad thing. This is the only group blog I'm in that's survived for so long (And I'm in five of them), and it's kinda sad to see it die.
Hais right. Haha.
Anyway. Discovered this test that's been circulating round the net lately and it's seriously quite accurate. The weird thing about it is that it doesn't seem to have any good things to say about the person, but what the hey. If you feel life sucks, this test will probably explain to you why you think it sucks. LoL. Click here to access it. I tried it and it's scaryyy. LoL.
Hm. Gonna miss you all now that no more real chance to meet up le ya. Haha. Bye bye, and take care okay! Good luck for exams/NS life!

Raffles Cup 2007
Hm. What do I say? Can say that I have mixed feelings about this Raffles Cup bah.
Firstly, I'm happy that AJC got first. Not meaning to show off or anything, just saying that at least it was us and not HCI ya. Really really have to thank NJC for pulling down HCI A. Thanks so so much!! KMK you really owe them a treat man. If not me then at least them. Haha.
But then, seeing that this is our last year at Raffles, it seems.. disappointing, that we didn't win anything this time round. For Yi Da, for Yong Hua, for me. This was our last year and naturally we'd want to go out with a bang, but I guess life never does go the way we want it to.
Lastly, I want to say I'm sorry to the NJC people. If I had won my match against HCI A (which was entirely possible given my situation) Sean would have been pushed to not draw with Zixian and after analysis Sean would have won in about 8 or so moves. Then we would have drawn with HCI A and NJC would have been third. Really sorry..
But I can say that my team already outdid itself by managing to put up strong fights against all the strong teams we faced. We drew with NJ, RJ, and nearly pulled off draws against AJ and HC. I'm very proud of my team. I don't have regrets, just disappointment. I'm sure Yi Da and Yong Hua feel similarly.
No regrets, just disappointment...
~Blitzed off by Wakka02~

Rcup 2007
Haha I think this time I dun need to fight la. I will be the first to type this as I see no one on msn. Unless all appear offline la :S
Anyway, congrats to AJC A for retaining the championship trophy. I must really say it nearly slipped out off NJC's or AJC's grasp this time and into HCI's. But I must thank NJC for helping hault HCI in their march to the conveted trophy. As such, AJC (and this small little community) can still hold their heads high and say that we have done it.
This time is by no means a one man (or team) show. It was a collaborative effort. AJC A stumbled but got back on track. NJC managed to hault HCI. AJC B nearly cost an upset! So kudos to all 3 captains of the teams. You all have done well. Someone in this community owes some of us a treat... :P
For blitz, you all were somewhat unlucky? But nvm la, this is the last rcup. Next up, we can always play in the open category!!! :S
Congrats to pei rong for winning another trophy for the second yr runnning. Yida has sure taught you well.
Now its time to concentrate on studies. Dun be like me...haha. Get good grades and get into the course you want!
All the best for the coming exams!

250th!
Yay I got the 250th post!
Okay first I gotta say sorry to Yick Loong, for the few clashes we've had recently. But seriously, don't judge me for what I said because firstly, I was irritable and pretty emotional, and secondly because you don't know me.
Yup.. With that out of the way, I hope everyone can do their utmost best at R Cup yeah? Let's not make it a repeat of HCI Cup and let HCI win both first and second again. THRASH THEM!!
Good luck to everyone! NJC, AJC or whatever school you're from, may the best man win yeah.

Rcup Beckons....
Rcup...
Yes it is the time of the year again, where the ppl in this blog should come out of hibernation and start training for this competition. Yeah man, show the rest what we are made up of!
I paid kmk and tian xiang a visit this wed. Saw some new faces. Haha. KMK and CTX, study comes first, but do train occassionally. You know char yang is not as "prestigious" as this cup. AJC has won it so many times in the past 8 years. 5 in fact. Haha. 1999, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2006. Make it the sixth time man! Ok la, I am being biased...
But seriously, I feel that give the favourites HCI a run for their money la. I am sure any team is capable of beating them. They dun have strategy in their formation. So pls do try and hit them hard. Yoohoo, Yida and Yong Hua, I am talking to you! Let it be a 1.2 finish this time! And for blitz, let it be a 1.2.3.4.5 finish, better than what kmk and I did in 2006. :)
And also to the two girls, do your best! Do your school proud! And then if you intend of going into NTU, you are already half way there! Haha.
But of course, studies comes first, so plan your time wisely! Hope I can take leave to come down to support all of you in RJC.
Cheers!

Blog....Blog....Blog....
Hello...anyone home? You Hoo!!!!!!!
Hiaz...guess everyone must be busy preparing yourselves for the upcoming tests yah? Oh well, good luck to all of you. But just a little experience to share.
Its best to decide now on roughly which courses you intend to pursue in university. Then you can work towards it. Dun be like some of my friends...mug and mug...get good results, but dun know what to choose. End up just anyhow choose. A' Level results are just a passport to university. My "passport" may not be a strong one, need loads of clearance before I can get into the country (course) that I want to. But still, I managed. So do plan.
And, if you set your sights on going NUS, be prepared. They MUST see RESULTS FIRST. They dun care how good your other things are. If your results do not make the cut (or rather, their cut), you dun stand a chance. NTU offers more leeway and room for one to enter the course of their choice.
Yep, just an experience I wish to share. DY anything to contribute?
All the best! Dun let this flame die out leh...we are all chess freaks right? :P

Eh...why everyone AWOL or MIA ah?
This blog becoming quite dead nowadays...but I will try to keep it alive!!
Anyway, to those who won a prize in char yang bei, congrats! That is for Yong Hua and Hui Xiang. To those who didn, dun give up. There are always other opportunities. Now is the time to concentrate a little more on your studies, cause I see yong hua and Yida so engrosed in mugging and doing their assignments :S
But trust me, you will miss studying next time when you come out to work. No sch holidays, longer hours and "the boss is always right". Lol.
All the best in your exams ppl! And to DY, all the best in the army! Never speak to you for so long, OCS right? :P
Cheers!

Heyzz.
I wanted to blog about the Challenge but I guess Yick Loong beat me to it this time. Haha.
Well it was certainly a very screwed up competition and it was obvious the way they organized it wasn't exactly wonderful. Flipping coins for the right of who went first is hardly fair in my opinion. Even so I'm sure everyone tried his best (or her best for the few girls who went for the competition) and since we all did our best we shouldn't leave behind any regrets yeah?
To peeps from NJC, don't be too disappointed ya. Surely there will be disappointment but don't overdo it lahs. There's more than one competition out there, and they won't be as screwed up as this one I'm sure. Although I don't think I'll get top 8 like I never did for Char Yong I'm sure everyone else can. Jiayou!

NTU Lightning Chess Competition
Hi,
Ok so I got wind of the process of the competition from CTX and KMK.
Well, it didn really turn out the way I expected it to be. Thought it will be an epic battle between NJ and AJ. But Yida and Yong Hua, dun be disappointed la. The NTU lightning is quite a screwed competition cause it doesn't test your real strength. Neither speed or slow, so quite hard to manage your time. And the way they screw up the pairings too I heard...quite dumb of them. How can they let AJC team 1 and 2 , and VJC teams 1 and 2 be in the same group? Higher chance of "crowding out effect".
Anyway, yep, so let Char Yang be the next target! Hope to see all of the ppl eligible here to have a position in the top 8 in their respective categories! Jia You!
Sorry DY, you and I are no longer eligible for Char Yong Cup, but we go there also kanna own, so not much diff...haha.

Anyway, ctx beat me to it AGAIN...haha wanted to wish all of you a HAPPY CNY! Do enjoy yourselves, for the coming weeks will be very hectic for all of us. Of course in different instances, but nevertheless, same "scenerio" la. So all the best in the coming weeks.
Hiaz...if only CTX can translate his promptness in blogging to chess...haha just joking. Ok, I shall not be biased. May the best win during the NTU Lightning Chess Comp!

BrokeBacks is getting thin!
Yeah TX is right...why am I one of the only ppl blogging when I am also one of the most busy? Haha yah, do try to keep this blog updated leh...I want to know whats happening...didn keep in touch with you all for so long already.
And...am I the one that have to keep making our pet exercise? Haha...dun know whether is it my eyes playing tricks on me or what...but it seems to be thinner than before lol...
Anyway, yah I know most of you are bugged down by exams and stuff. But if you are discouraged by the poor results, dun be. What matters in the end is only PRELIM and the A's. Most impt is you learn from your mistakes and dun repeat them again. Yep.
Dy any more advice to add? :P

Hey hey~
Haven't visited this blog for like soooo long. Hahaha. How's everyone doing?
How's NJC chess club? We got amazing number of J1s signing up for chess club in AJC, like 20+? Although admittedly most of them will probably quit after 1st three months or something. But not bad le, our year didn't even hit 15 before they all quit.
For our seniors, hope y'all have good times at the army! (Yick Loong told me like chalet like that, wth man) And good luck for your A Level results, you'll all do fine lah... I hope. Hahahx. For the rest of us, jiayou for As and see y'all at Raffles/Char Yong!
P.S.: Don't worry no hidden words this time!

Ok, yah most of you know I already came back from BMT. But unless you are in the same PES status as me, there is no basis for comparison as to how life on TEKONG will be. The only thing i can say? You get to hear a lot of airplanes fly past you every day.

Haiz
Okie... i don noe what on earth happened between you two. But i seriously hope everything is fine eh?
Erm, first to our lovely CTX. Yea, you are rite that sometimes we really left you out. I felt that myself... but watever, i am sorry? i will always make a effort to get you in the convo but i guess sometimes i really screw up badly... really sorry. If you have not feel it, yea i treat you as part of us. Remember how you are part of the team during Singapore poly? Well, you are always part of the team. :) And yea, try to cheer up k? No point fixing yourself in a perma depression mode, wont get things anywhere. Sometimes we shld really get on with life. Juz like when i got screwed out of HC, trust me it was really painful, but well.. not everyday is a sunday... so yea.. smile!
Yupps, now to tyl. Got nothing much to say... you are right about some stuff in CHSCC...but there are other stuff that i think differently...Nvm, not impt.. but i think sometimes you need to be more flexible in the theories that are guiding your life rite now.. Anyway, happy NS =D

Blitzing Off
I rather get the feeling that that post was written after and because of the rather heated argument that Yick Loong and I had sometime around 10 PM two days ago.
My viewpoint of the matter regarding the argument still stands. Nothing's changed. I came to love chess back in Secondary Two, under, I believe, the influence of Mun Kiat. Having "Chess King" in a class full of chess fanatics tends to rub off on you. I still remember how our class loved playing chess during recess times back in Secondary One and Two.
I loved chess all throughout my Secondary School days. Yes, I remember also the times when we stayed back till seven plus on Thursday just to play chess. We got chased out of the room several times, and on some occasions even stayed back in the canteen to play on after we got chased out.
I still love chess now. That's one thing that won't change, for quite some time at least. I'll love chess throughout my JC years, and probably carry over well into my NS life.
I like the people in CHSCC. Really, I do. Mun Kiat has been my friend and classmate for four years, schoolmate for five. We talk about all sorts of nonsensical things, from DotA to chess to girls to anything under the sun.
I remember all the times when Yi Da and I used to quarrel back in Secondary One. We got into a wrestling match between our right arms once, although he probably doesn't recall. He was the first to notice my sudden quiet self a few months back, and that's something everyone else failed to notice. Kudos to you.
Yong Hua is an amiable person. He and I can probably get along very well. He likes singing too, something that only he and I shares in this community. We share the same taste in songs, and I like playing chess with him.
Yick Loong has probably been the best senior I've ever had. He's the only one I still keep in contact with, to tell the truth. I can't count the number of times he's offered his listening ear to me, something which others have offered rarely.
I like the people. But I hate the club.
I've told this to Yick Loong. I see no reason why I should hide it from all of you.
I hate CHSCC. Whenever everyone gets together, I feel so... left out. The five of you - Yi Da, Zhuang Yong, Mun Kiat, Yong Hua and Yick Loong - when all of you get together, I stand no place in that small circle. Bonds so strong, I can't seperate them wide enough to squeeze in.
Yes, skill is no measure of friendship. But think back on how your friendship came about in the first place. Was it not because of your talents in the game? As I recall the friendship began sprouting in Secondary Two. I was no good player at the time, and thus I was left out of it, so to speak. Whenever chess club trainings were in session, the five - or most of the time four, for Zhuang Yong had NCC trainings - of you were almost always seen together. I envied that, really.
I trained hard, in hopes that I would get to a standard high enough to be accepted into your circle. But the time it took for me to develop was ample opportunity for you all to build a friendship. One that didn't have me in it.
True, to Yick Loong and the rest of you, Peng Fei and company are friends and perhaps more. But to him, I'm just another player in the field, one that doesn't really deserve much attention to. To gain his trust and friendship I find you need skill first. Don't argue with me about that point, Yick Loong, because you have skill and I don't. You don't know what it's like to be in my shoes.
In competitions, you rarely see me hanging around you people, or rather only at the outskirts, or unless you're alone with me. Because being with you all as a group makes me feel excluded. I can't follow with half of what you're saying, and I have the sense to keep my mouth shut about things I don't know about.
Which is why I like the people, but I hate the club.
Y'all are the best Secondary school friends I've had. I've lost contact with half my classmates, and the other half I talk to approximately once per half year. All of you can make me laugh and smile and joke, which is something I find I can't do from the heart these days.
Yick Loong, I'm sorry for losing my temper with you a couple of days back. It isn't your fault, really. But sometimes I just can't keep it all in well enough, and well the attitude you gave me wasn't exactly doing much to help keep my temper cool. Sorry ya. I know you're heading off to NS soon. I won't be seeing you anymore before that, not being able to go for the farewell party tomorrow and all that. So I apologize first, for losing my temper. I still don't see things the way you want me to see them and you don't see mine, but let's just leave it at that.
Good luck for your NS years, and take care ya.

CHS Chessclub
Hey everyone, erm...this post is for CHS Chessclub ppl to read. The rest, feel free to read through and learn the TRUTH about our tradition and values. Bear no hard feelings whatsoever while reading this post as its purpose is solely to preach the truth and nothing more.
No attempt shall be made to hide this post...and add in more if you know, cause my memory not very good...but no "flamming"!!!
In this little chess community we have here, there are 5 ex-cat high chess club players. CHS chessclub has been known to produce very good players on the field. But off the field, we too inculcate important values such as friendship and team spirit to our future generations. After all, this is the basis of the success of Chessclub.
The closeness of one's friendship within the club is not determined by one's skill, but rather, by the no. of times the team has gone through thick and thin together. Weathered various storms, share both joy and sorrow. Only through this "vigorous" test, can strong friendship bonds be forged. We try to rope in as many people into the "team" as possible. Not the school team, but this friendship team. One does not need to be a good chess player to be close to the others. Take for instance Ying Jian, 2 yrs my senior. He was a very average player, but he bonded well with peng fei's group and I due to his willingness to chat with us, listen to us, be made fun off and yet not get angry....basically all about adaptability and flexibility. Later on when I met him again in a competition when he was JC2 and I sec4, I could still sense the closeness amongst us, and we still chatted like the good old days.
The hallmark of a cat high chess player is that he must be a TEAM PLAYER. Sad to say, this sense of togetherness is declining over the years. But I am happy that within this small community, we can still boast of it. (At least in my opinion). What is a TEAM PLAYER? He must see the bigger picture whenever decisions are made and respect decisions. Yicheng is a classic example of a team player. When he was Sec3, he was one of the better players among those in the school team, and certainly warranted a place in team A. However, the club wanted to achieve 2 top positions in the Raffles Cup 2003, something which we have done for 5 years running. Thus, yicheng willingly sacrificed himself by unselfishingly moving to team B. He helped us to achieve 4th place that yr. I asked him if he ever regreted that decision as it costs him much glory and fame. But he replied that in chess, we must always look at what is best for the club, and not only for ourselves. He would go on to "sacrifice" even in Junior College against PF and me, so that we could finish 1.2.3.4 in the 2005 char yang bei. He could have finished 2nd, but he chose to draw with me so that I could go into the top 4...
Skills of cat high chess players are not solely based on talent alone. I reckon that at least 70% comes from experience and 30% is of talent. How do we get the experience? We must first have the passion. Passion to learn from mistakes and not repeat them again. Practising repeatedly but committing the same errors is of little or no use. Sacrificing time to practice for important competitions SERIOUSLY is also another way. In cat high, I remember we used to stay back until 7+ to play chess. It has become part of our lives. It is evident in all GREAT PLAYERS of chess club. Up till now, the passion for the game has not died. PF...chess is simply in him. Kai Jun too, and many others. We didn mind getting thrashed by our seniors last time. It was the only way to improve. And the only way to improve our standard is to play with a better opponent. Trying to beat lao shi was also one of our main objectives last time. By far, peng fei has the best record of beating lao shi on 4 occassions, and drawing quite a number. I think I really pale in comparison to him...haha.
Through this never-ending determination to improve, we climbed from "noobs" to become respectable players. But one thing is always practiced: Humility. Despite pf being seemingly arrogant in front of us, he is humble when it comes to the competitive stage. He seldom looks down on opponents, which I have learnt from him, and enabled me to climb to where I am today.
Cat high chessclub was never the "elitist club" in the chess fretinity. We ensured that whoever is willing to learn will be able to gain as much success as those who have already established themselves. We never shun lousy opponents, instead making good friends with them too. This makes us both a powerhouse, and a respectable friend. The club was designed to groom its ppl into good ppl despite the many bad words spouted out by pf during his era. That is why year after year, there seem to be an accumulating no. of people joining the cat high chess club alumni. It is an "invisible" association that is set up by our seniors, and each year, more and more of our ppl become part of the alumni and get to know their "ancestors". This explains why we regard kai jun, tian nuo and others, who are at least 6 yrs older than us, still as friends. This association continues to foster the strong bonds that were once present in chs chessclub. Being a new entrant myself in sec2, I quickly formed bonds with the "older generation" because I felt the warmness they had towards me. I am sure many others have followed suit.
In short, cat high chessclub has a rich tradition despite being only 15-16 yrs old. We inculcate good values in ppl, coupled with its comprehensive style of learning the art of chess. Friendships in chessclub are never measured by how strong a person is, but how willing is he to learn and bond with the "team". The door is always open. Welcome to CHSCC :)

200th Post
Haha this is the 200th post!!! We have come this far...and we will continue to do so indefinitely!
Anyway, tomorrow marks the start of the A levels la. So I would like to thank all that has wished me good luck or help me in one way or another. After the A's, I will only get to see you all for about 3 weeks, then I got to go in for army already :S. So seldom can see you all.
Here are some well wishes/messages/whatever you call it that I want to say to each of you. Dun get me wrong, this is not my death note...ok lame...anyway here it goes...
DY: It has been nice knowing you, both as a chess player and a good friend. Haha, I can still remember some incidents like the 2005 char yang bei when you thought you lost...haha. But that aside, now we are entering a crucial part of our lives. Best wishes for your A Levels! You can do it!! :)
KMK: Have more confidence in yourself la. Fr0m enemies to friends...haha what more can I ask for? Lol... Dun worry, this is not my "Last Flight Out". You know what I am refering to :P
YYH: The first time I knew you, you were shy, quiet, and obedient. But now, wah, a changed man! Haha. But good la...changed for the better, now more sociable :) Keep it up! Haha.
SYD: You have the foresight. Really pei fu you. Can see problems arising in advance. I have learnt alot from you. Do keep in touch! Haha.
CTX: Haha last time used to call you ***, and pf used to like to use you like a "soft toy". But now cannot already :D haha nah just joking. Dun be too easily demoralised by stuff, and dun dwell too much on past events. Life has to go on...haha right? I will still remember the days in cat high...lol
Yitian, Hui Xiang and Cheryl.
Eh...sorry if I got your names wrong or something. I dun really know much about you all cause I only interacted with you all ONCE. Haha, anyway, all the best for your future endeavours. Dun mean to sound cliche here, but yah, sorry really dun know what to say...haha.
Yah, thats about it. I didn miss anyone out did I? Anyway, if I unintentionally offended you with my comments, sorry about it because I have no intention to do so. Yah...so just take it lightly la...oh well, hope to meet up after the A's!!!

THE ETHICS OF WHINING
"I'M SCREWED", "I'M DEAD", the human moan and suchlike must be one of the top few noises issuing from people's mouths in the world. We hear it everyday, HecK, we use it all the time. When we fall into bad luck we f- this and f- that, we blame God, the weather, and sometimes even our dogs. And we do it because it's comfortable, easy and cheap. We all love to wallow in self-pity: we carave the attention and care of our friends, family etc. In short, we are sympathy druggies.
I'm notsaying that whining is completely useless. Whining has its place in the range of emotional expression. It is the ultimate expression of the human desire to bitch about stuff without irreparable consequences. It is that tempting prospect of having people fawn over you. But most of all it is one's cry about what one considers to be unfair (and uncontrollable) cirumstances that has landed you in a mud pit. Whining apportions blame to the unknown "Other", so you get off scot-free. See?
Whining once in a while about how life sucks is acceptable. It helps us to feel good for awhile, comforts our bruised egos, hearts etc. and sometimes it helps us to get back on our feet. But when whining becomes excessive it's just downright irritating. I know you've seen the sort, and unfortunately L have to say that bloggers are prime offenders. The invention of the humble blog has virually spawned millions of narratives across the Internet: someone complaining about work, the Significant Other. bad luck and so on day after day. Or you've had That Friend (or you could be That Friend...without even realizing it!) That everyone wants to avoid, because they're like mosquitoes. They never say die, these emotional hypochondriacs.
Hasn't anyone thought about the ethics of whining? Do people know what it means to be clinically depressed? The word "depressed" has become so fashionable now among whiners, it loses its original meaning...please remember that it was created for those poor sods who really ARE having problems. At some point self-pity has to stop. Continuous self-pity is self-destructive: one fixates oneself on the problem, and ignores possible solutions. I say that excessive whining should be banned. Whiners are a pain on the eyes and the ears.
And life sucks. It's a fact of life. Get used to it. Remember what your mother told you?? Empty vessels make the most noise. Now you SEE she was talking something.

The ANS
Haha wah....I didn expect so many ppl to post an ans...haha good good...blog not dead yet...
Ok...I am also very interested, and I want to "suan" my physics teacher (just kidding) , so I went to do a research on this topic.....and....Dian Yang and I got it right!
As I explained earlier, there must be a balance between the pressure in the plane, and the pressure outside the plane. Or else, the plane will just blow up due to pressure differences (high pressure inside, low pressure outside). Thus, the air cabin pressure is lowered to that of the pressure at 10 000 feet, which is the best balance. The plane can be made with fairly light material (duralunium) and not explode in mid air. So that saves costs.
Now comes the interesting part....
Jets fly high in the atmosphere... typically between 26,000 and 41,000 feet... where the air is very thin. In order for passengers to breathe, extra oxygen has to be pumped into the cabin. If that extra oxygen wasn't added, we'd pass out in seconds. When the extra oxygen is pumped in, it's joined by other atmospheric gases. That gives in interior of the plane the "pressure"... or air density... you'd normally experience at 10,000 feet. Thus, the pressure is much higher inside the plane than it is outside.
In other words, the percentage of oxygen in the air cabin is increased by pumping in extra oxygen. This is necessary so as to allow normal breathing. The excess oxygen is of course, mixed with normal air from outside, thus we are able to breathe normally.
When does the oxygen mask come in then?
It is only deployed when the cabin faces a leak in air: ie; there is a drop in oxygen. As such, the captain deploys the last tank of oxygen, the oxygen mask, which contains normal air to passengers to breathe normally. He has to find a landing place fast as the oxygen will not last forever.
As to CTX's view...oxygen tanks DO NOT HAVE 100% OXYGEN!
We will die if we breathe in 100% oxygen. They just contain the right mixture for us to breathe normally. Even when you are on life support, or tht they are curing you from Carbon Monoxide posioning, they only feed u with 40% pure oxygen so as to use the vast amt to force ligand exchange between CO and O2 ligand in the haemoglobin. You will learn this under transition metals. Haha, so CTX, no 100% pure oxygen....
Interesting right?

Wah lao
I confused le la.. Haha. Yong Hua's description damn difficult to uds. Haha. But I dun think got more oxygen ba, oxygen tanks contain near 100% oxygen, you can't possibly fill the entire cabin with oxygen right, that'll be damn ex... And the CO2 the ppl produce will lower the percentage of oxygen too fast anw...
I got no theory as to how it works, haha. Cannot think. LoL.

wat they use to maintain the high pressure?
do dey use air particles to maintain the high pressure?
use air particles of normal air? or inert gases? maybe dey use normal air with higher oxygen, cos pressure is lower than atmospheric rite, at such a high level.. so more oxygen den higher entrophy or wat? den ppl can take in? aiya confusing.

Maybe...
the air they use to pressurise the plane has a higher percentage of oxygen? Haha just a thought.

"Food for thought"
I guess all, if not most of us has taken an air flight before...but have you ever wondered how we actually survive that flight?
We all know that the air cabin is pressurised, about the pressure which is 2000m above sea level. This is so as prevent the plane from being crushed by pressure. But...at 2000m above sea level, most mountainers already need oxygen tanks while they are hiking. However, why do we not need oxygen tanks even though we are in the same scenerio as them?
Anybody knows the ans? I would like to hear it too...see if anyone thinks the same view as me...and my friend...
Btw...this question was posed by my physics teacher...he doesn know the ans too :P
Happy weekend!

9 Things I Hate About Everyone
1. People who point at their wrist while asking for the time....
I know where my watch is pal, where the hell is yours? Do I point at my crotch when I ask where the toilet is?
2 People who are willing to get off their ass to search the entire room for the T.V. remote because they refuse to walk to the T.V. and change the channel manually.
3 When people say "Oh you just want to have your cake and eat it too".
Damn right! What good is cake if you can't eat it?
4 When people say "it's always the last place you look".
Of course it is. Why the hell would you keep looking after you've found it? Do people do this? Who and where are they? Gonna Kick their asses!
5 When people say while watching a film "did you see that?".
No Loser, I paid $12 to come to the cinema and stare at the damn floor.
6 People who ask "Can I ask you a question?"
.... Didn't really give me a choice there, did ya sunshine?
7. When something is 'new and improved!'
Which is it? If it's new, then there has never been anything before it. If it's an improvement, then there must have been something before it, couldn't be new.
8 When people say "life is short".
What the hell?? Life is the longest damn thing anyone ever does!! What can you do that's longer?
9 When you are waiting for the bus and someone asks "Has the bus come yet?".
If the bus came would I be standing here, dumbass?

The Stock Market simply illustrated ... there is a lesson here
Once upon a time, in a village a man appeared who announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10. The villagers seeing that there were many monkeys went out in the forest and started catching them. The man bought thousands at $10 and as supply started to diminish and villagers started to stop their effort he announced that now he would buy at $20. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again. Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer rate increased to $25 and the supply of monkeys became so scarce that it was an effort to even see a monkey let alone catch it.
The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $50! However, since he had to go to the city on some business his assistant would now buy on behalf of the man. In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers. "Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will sell them to you at $35 and when the man comes back, you can sell it to him for $50."The villager squeezed up with all their savings to buy the monkeys.
Then they never saw the man nor his assistant, only monkeys everywhere!!!!

Elemental Names
Speaking of which...I am studying sooo much chem these days that I can almost recall all the elements in the periodic table...haha just joking.
I realised tht most of our names can be "formed" with the initials of elements....so let me start with myself...
TYL --> Ta (Tantalum) Y (Yttrium) L (nothing) haha....so i am lan...no future. But the rest of you...all have futures!
KMK --> Potassium^2 Manganese
SYD --> Seaborgium (Sg) Yttrium (Y) D(deuterium)
YYH --> Yttrium^2 Hydrogen
CTX --> Carbon Titanium Xenon
Haha but the most interesting part of all is....Dian Yang has a an element that matches his initials exactly! It is in the lathanides series.... Dysprosium (DY).
And tin guo ran is tin... Sn....haha.....just joking la...
There are many slots left in the periodic table yet to be filled up.... ppl are still searching for them. If you have not realised, many elements are named after great inventors. I believe that in the future, one of our names may be on that periodic table too... or at least, our group name....
hqc---> more radioactive than any other material found on earth. Most chatty one of all. Most productive (efficient). Unique blend of items in it. INFINITE HALF LIFE. Yes...that shall be the description of hqc, if it ever exists....haha.
